GUNTUR: An MBA graduate was arrested on Thursday in connection with a series of chain-snatching incidents in the city. Police recovered gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 10 lakh from the possession of the main accused Nallabothula Naresh Kumar and his associate Sanakkayala Siva Reddy.
Guntur police superintendent A Ravikrishna said Naresh completed his MBA and worked with a chartered accountant in Hyderabad before returning to Guntur. As Naresh was habituated to drinking and led a lavish lifestyle, he turned into a professional thief to make quick money to clear his debts.
Naresh had recently appeared for Group-I examinations to get into a government job. After taking on Siva Reddy as his partner, he began snatching chains on a two-wheeler in the city.
The duo has been committing crimes for the past 10 months. They confessed their involvement in 11 chain snatching incidents in Arundelpet, Pattabhipuram and other areas of the city.
Police recovered nearly 400 grams gold of ornaments and a bike from them.
The police superintendent complimented Pattabhipuram inspector D Durga Prasad for catching the chain snatchers.
