About Kamlesh Sir

Kamlesh Sir What is your educational background and what inspired your interest in teaching Math? I have done my engineering B.E Civil —in which math was one of the subjects. Earlier, students would approach me with their problems in maths and I was able to help them without even referring to any books. After I retired, I could not join a school or college and decided to take up private tuitions in math instead.Till what level do you coach students? Do you provide individual attention or take students in groups? I teach maths and physics up to class 12. I have also taught a couple of engineering students. I prefer to teach students individually. However, sometimes parents, due to financial constraints, cannot afford individual tuitions so small groups are preferable, where one should try to ensure that all students in the group have the same ability levels and understanding of the subject. What is your criterion for taking on new students? Do you insist on a good past record, like some coaching classes? When taking on new students, I only insist that they are hard working. The attitude of the student is very important; they should be willing to learn. These days, some students want to study only from the exam point of view and leave out topics from the syllabus, which is not right, especially for a subject like math, where everything is inter-related. I don’t go by the past record of a student. I have even coached a student who failed twice in class 12. And not only did he pass, he is now a pilot. What is lacking in our education system that causes most students to seek additional assistance with subjects like math and science? The number of students in each class is very high today, so teacher could not able to pay complete attention to every student. The students themselves sometimes feel that they cannot talk to or approach the teachers with their difficulties. Most teachers also insist that the students only use their methods. I teach the students in a simple manner and then, once they have understood, it is easy for them to adapt that knowledge to the teachers method. What kind of scope does this profession have, according to you? There is tremendous scope for private math teachers today. This year, 16 lakh students appeared for the SSC exam. That statistic alone suggests the demand. Besides, today math teachers can charge up to Rs 500 per session with a student, when they are giving them individual attention. You can reach us and contact : Kamlesh H.
