This surface-to-surface short-range ballistic missile has been in service since 1994. Currently Prithvi II is being used by the Indian Army, Airforce and Navy. This iteration of this missile is codenamed Dhanush, and it can carry a 1,000 kg warhead to a distance of 350 kms! The Prithvi system operates using a stabilizing board that is akin to a bow; the missile, of course, is reminiscent of an arrow--an arrow that has an operational range of several kilometers!

his sophisticated surface-to-air missile defense system was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program. Since 2009, 3,000 medium-range missiles compatible with this system have been built.

While flying at an altitude of 18 kms, these missiles can reach speeds of up to Mach 3.5!

India is one of just three countries--along with Russia and China--that has this supersonic ramjet powered cruise missile at its disposal. Powered by four ramjets, this missile typically flies at about 20m, and has an operational range of up to 120 kms!

In other words, it can cause a lot of damage from large distances--and we're glad our defense forces are equipped with it!

The Indian Army and Navy have this amazing stealth supersonic cruise missile in their arsenal. Hopefully, it will soon be adopted by the Indian Airforce as well. This Indo-Russian weapon can reach speeds of up to Mach 3.0 and is currently the fastest cruise missile in the world.

Little wonder why one unit of Brahmos costs a whopping INR 14,20,00,000 (approx).
