As of July 2013, China Mobile is the world's largest mobile phone operator by subscribers with about 740 million.

It is the world's second-largest mobile telecommunications company measured by both subscribers and 2011 revenues (in each case behind China Mobile), and had 439 million subscribers as of December 2011.

Vodafone owns and operates networks in over 30 countries and has partner networks in over 40 additional countries. Its Vodafone Global Enterprise division provides telecommunications and IT services to corporate clients in over 65 countries. Vodafone also owns 45% of Verizon Wireless, the largest mobile telecommunications company in the United States measured by subscribers.

Vodafone has a primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. It had a market capitalisation of approximately £89.1 billion as of 6 July 2012, the third-largest of any company listed on the London Stock Exchange. It has a secondary listing on NASDAQ.

 

3. Airtel

 

 Bharti Airtel Limited, commonly known as Airtel, is an Indian multinational telecommunications services company headquartered in New Delhi, India. It operates in 20 countries across South Asia, Africa, and the Channel Islands. Airtel has GSM network in all countries in which it operates, providing 2G, 3G and 4G services depending upon the country of operation. Airtel is the world's fourth largest mobile telecommunications company by subscribers with over 275 million subscribers across 20 countries as of July 2013. It is the largest cellular service provider in India, with 191.39 million subscribers as of July 2013. Airtel is the third largest in-country mobile operator by subscriber base, behind China Mobile and China Unicom.

 

4. América Móvil

 

 América Móvil is a Mexican telecommunication company headquartered in Mexico City, Mexico. It is the fourth largest mobile network operator in terms of equity subscribers and one of the largest corporations in the world. América Móvil is a Forbes Global 2000 company. A venture of Carlos Slim, América Móvil provides services to 246 million mobile subscribers in 18 countries.

 

5. Telefónica

 

Telefónica, S.A. (Spanish pronunciation: [teleˈfonika]) is a Spanish broadband and telecommunications provider with operations in Europe, Latin America, North America and Asia. Operating globally, it is the fifth largest mobile network provider in the world. The company started as a public telecommunications company. Its head office is in the Distrito Telefónica in Madrid.

Telefónica is a supporter of the Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) initiative (a consortium of broadcasting and Internet industry companies including SES, OpenTV and Institut für Rundfunktechnik) that is promoting and establishing an open European standard for hybrid set-top boxes for the reception of broadcast TV and broadband multimedia applications with a single user interface, and has run pilot HbbTV services in Spain.

 

6. Orange S.A.

 

Orange S.A., formerly France Télécom S.A., is a French multinational telecommunications corporation. It currently employs about 170,000 people, 105,000 of them in France, and has 230 million customers worldwide. In 2012, the group had revenue of €43.5 billion. Its head office is in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, and the current CEO is Stéphane Richard.

Orange has been the company's main brand for mobile, landline, internet and IPTV services since 2006. The brand originated in 1994 when Hutchison Whampoa acquired a controlling stake in Microtel Communications Ltd during the early 1990s and rebranded it as Orange. It became a subsidiary of Mannesmann in 1999 and was acquired by France Télécom in 2000. The company was rebranded as Orange in July 2013.

 

 

7. Axiata

 

 Axiata’s primary business is in investment holding and the provision of telecommunication and consultancy services on an international scale. Their main focus being emerging markets in Asia, some with low mobile penetration in South and Southeast Asia.

Formerly known as TM International Bhd(TMI), the company was incorporated in 12 June 1992, and was the mobile and international operations arm of Telekom Malaysia Bhd(TM). Following the de-merger of TMI from TM, the company was listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad in 2008. On 2 April 2009, TMI underwent a rebranding exercise, launching its new name, Axiata, and a new logo.

 

8. VimpelCom Ltd.

 

 VimpelCom Ltd. is a global provider of telecommunication services based in Amsterdam. It is the sixth largest mobile network operator in the world by subscribers (as of April 2012) with 214 million customers (as per December 31, 2012) in 18 countries. A lion's share of the company's revenue comes from Russia (39%) and Italy (31%).

VimpelCom's brands include "Beeline" (in Russia and CIS), "Kyivstar" (in Ukraine), "Wind" (in Italy and Canada), "Djezzy" (in Algeria), "Mobilink" (in Pakistan), "Banglalink" (in Bangladesh), and others.

 

9. China Unicom 

 

 China Unicom or China United Netcom (Hong Kong) Ltd, is a Chinese state-owned telecommunications operator in the People's Republic of China. Compared to other mobile providers China Unicom is ranked as the world's third-biggest mobile provider. On January 7, 2009, China Unicom was awarded WCDMA license to expand its business to 3G telecommunication.

 

 

 

10. MTN Group

 

 MTN Group is a South Africa-based multinational mobile telecommunications company, operating in many African, European and Middle Eastern countries. Its head office is in Johannesburg.

MTN Group's President and CEO is RS Dabengwa (from 1 April 2011). The company sponsored the CAF Champions League football competition as well as APOEL F.C., winners of the Cypriot First Division in 2009 and participants in the 2009–10 UEFA Champions League.

On 18 March 2010, it was announced that MTN signed a sponsorship deal with English football Giants Manchester United F.C.
