Top Hollywood actor, Angelina Jolie has created increased global awareness of breast cancer and genetic testing along with pre-emptive medical procedures when she made her decision to undergo a double mastectomy public five months ago.

Her doctor confirms that by doing so she has saved many lives.

Dr. Jay Orringer, the Beverly Hills, Calif., surgeon who performed Jolie's breast reconstruction was heard stating in an interview with the New York Daily that he is already witnessing patients who say that they are inspired and are opting for gene testing.

He added that he thinks that it is going to have a very lasting impact.

As soon as Jolie revealed her medical condition to the media and public there was a noticeable effect as observed by the National Society of Genetic Counsellors.

Astonishing figures came to light on the day of Jolie's surgery and showed an 86 percent rise in the online tool "Find a Genetic Counsellor".

As per the Preventive Mastectomy Fact Sheet figures there are only less than 200 page view each day which rose suddenly to 69,000 page views.
