image General Motors Co fired several employees after an internal probe into a recent recall of its Chevrolet Tavera sport-utility vehicle in India uncovered "violations of company policy," the U.S. automaker said on Friday.   "We take these matters very seriously and hold our leaders and employees to high standards," GM said in a statement. The Reuter's/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index rose 85.1 in July compared to 83.9 in June. image Global beverage giant, PepsiCo Inc has said that it will no longer brand its Naked juices as being "all natural" following a lawsuit challenging the move against the company.   The lawsuit against the company based in Purchase, N. Y, claimed that the drinks contain ingredients that cannot be branded as natural. Pepsi has also agreed to pay $9 million to settle the lawsuit after admitting that it uses boost of vitamins in some drinks.   The lawsuit alleged that the company is suing synthetic ingredients, including a fiber made by Archer Daniels Midland in the drinks. image India is in talks to export natural gas to Pakistan through a pipeline from Punjab to help the country overcome crippling energy shortage.   State gas utility GAIL has proposed to lay a 110-km pipeline from Jalandhar to Wagah border via Amritsar to supply natural gas to Pakistan, company Chairman and Managing Director B C Tripathi told reporters here.   Gas in its liquid form (liquefied natural gas or LNG) will be imported at ports in Gujarat and moved through GAIL's existing pipeline network till Jalandhar. Seoul, July 25 : South Korea's gross domestic product (GDP) growth accelerated to 1.1 percent in the second quarter from the prior quarter as a turnaround in private consumption relieved a weak facility investment, central bank data showed Thursday.   Real GDP, the broadest measure of economic performance, expanded 1.1 percent in the second quarter from three months earlier after gaining 0.8 percent in the previous quarter, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).   The reading was the highest since 1.3 percent tallied in the first quarter of 2011, beating market consensus of 0.8 percent. image New Delhi, July 25 : German luxury automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz Thursday launched its sports sedan car E 63 AMG priced at Rs. 1.29 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).   "With this launch, we now have a very unique and broad range of product offering in India," Eberhard Kern, managing director and chief executive, Mercedes-Benz India, told IANS.   "We have gone ahead and launched various new products this year. image The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) today said that manufacturers of sedan cars, including Maruti SX4, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Altis, will not have to pay excise duty at the higher rate of 30 per cent levied on SUVs. image New Delhi: Weeks after his group firm applied for a bank licence from RBI, Kumar Mangalam Birla Tuesday said he has resigned from the Board of the central bank to avoid any conflict of interest.   "I have resined from RBI Board 4-5 days ago. So, there is no conflict of interest now," Birla said here.   Birla was a nominated as a member of the Directors of the Central Board of the RBI in 2006.   His group firm Aditya Birla Nuvo is among 26 entities that have applied for a bank licence. The last date for applying for a bank licence expired on July 1.   With Birla continued to be on the Board of RBI even after his group firm applied for a licence.

image According to a new study, the UK has a much larger digital economy contributing to the overall economy, than believed by the government in the country.   The new study by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) said that the digital economy is about 40 per cent larger than previously believed.
